I stood on top of mountains The world bent to my will, Of happiness and contentment, I always had my fill.
Sad times were only fleeting I was blessed in every way, But reality kicked my teeth in, I still feel it to this day.
I watched my mountains crumble, Watched the rising of the sea, My entire world collapsed to waves of rubble and debris.
Happy childhood, healthy home, My depression cared for naught, Depression robbed my soul of all the joy I’d ever sought.
I prayed for my salvation I prayed for days on end, But there was no answer to my prayers, no God to help me mend.
I left it all behind The only life I’d ever known, I lived my life anew, my life was mine and mine alone.
I found comfort in that nothingness The space that God once took, My life was mine to live, and not decided by a book.
I began to breath once more I began to see a purpose, This life is what we make of it, that fact should never hurt us.
Slowly, very slowly, I made it back ashore, I survived my darkest times, and I am stronger than before.
Sometimes I stand on mountains, And sometimes I’m in a boat, But I’m now a little wiser, I know how to keep afloat.
And when I see another drowning Weighed down by their own brain, I can lend a helping hand, and I can help them up again.
