1. What's a psychologist?

The Australian Psychological Society says: Psychologists are experts in human behaviour. They use scientific methods to study the factors that influence the way that people think, feel and learn, and evidence-based strategies and interventions to help people to overcome challenges and improve their performance. Many psychologists work directly with those experiencing difficulties, such as mental health disorders including anxiety and depression. They help people to overcome relationship problems, eating disorders, learning problems, substance abuse, parenting issues, or to manage the effects of a chronic illness.

2. What's a dietitian?

A dietitian is a healthcare professional who specialises in food and nutrition. They provide evidence-based advice to help people manage their health, prevent or treat medical conditions, eating disorders and achieve personal wellness goals. Dietitians assess dietary needs, collaboratively create sustainable lifestyle changes, create personalised meal plans, and educate clients on making healthy food choices. Unlike nutritionists, dietitians are typically licensed or registered and are held to specific professional standards.

3. How long do sessions go for and how many do I get?

Mind Mode sessions generally run for 50-minute for a regular session, though group sessions and power sessions differ.

Every person has a different journey with different needs. Some people with a single purpose may choose to only complete one session whilst for others there may be an ongoing need.

Medicare generally provides rebates for up to 6 sessions in a year with an option of extending to 10 after a review. Eligibility and conditions regarding these sessions should be discussed with your doctor.

4. What will happen in my first session?

  • The first session is an opportunity for you and your psychologist to get to know each other. Together you will briefly run through important paperwork which may include completing a form with basic personal information and a consent form that covers issues such as confidentiality, fees and other important information about sessions.

After completing paperwork you and your psychologist will explore relevant information in order to develop a thorough understanding of you and your concerns. This may include background history, information about your family, social relationships, work history and any past counselling that you have done.

Based on this information, a better understanding about what might be triggering and maintaining your current issues can be explored and we will work with you to develop a collaborative and flexible plan for your journey.

5. What is the Medicare Better Access Scheme?

  • The Better Access to Psychiatrists, Psychologists and General Practitioners through the Medicare Benefits Schedule (Better Access) initiative aims to improve outcomes for people with a clinically-diagnosed mental disorder through evidence-based treatment.

Under this initiative, Medicare rebates are available to patients for selected mental health services provided by general practitioners (GPs), psychiatrists, psychologists (clinical and registered) and eligible social workers and occupational therapists.

6. How do I book an appointment?

There are multiple avenues to booking an appointment. You can:

  1. Book online, using our Client Portal.
  2. Call our admin team on 4288 4667.
  3. Send us an email, at admin@mindmode.com.au
  4. Submit an enquiry via our website.

If you have any questions or concerns in regards to your appointment, we recommend speaking to us over the phone to ensure they are addressed as soon as possible.

Please note that we do take pre-payment for your initial session.

7. What's the cancellation policy?

Mind Mode’s cancellation policy ensures that all clients have a chance to see their psychologist at their earliest convenience. By providing adequate notice if you intend to cancel, it allows other clients an opportunity to fill your spot.

We require 48 hours’ notice if you wish to change or cancel an appointment. Appointment changes within 48 hours of your scheduled appointment will incur a cancellation fee.

8. What if I know someone at Mind Mode personally?

Mind Mode has policies in place to protect yourself and your information. A personal relationship creates a conflict of interest and you will not be able to see a clinician you know personally.

If one of our team members recognises you, including our admin staff members, a flag will be placed on your file that advises that person should not access your profile unless required (ie if another admin person is not available). If this is the case, they will access only the bare minimum of information to service your enquiry.
