You must hold a valid Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, dated before your first appointment, to be eligible for a Medicare rebate. Rebates cannot be used for Relationship Counselling.
Under the Better Access program, Medicare provides rebates for 6 sessions, with the option of extending to 10 after a review. These rebates will be lodged with Medicare as soon as your session has taken place.
Eligibility and conditions regarding these sessions should be discussed with your doctor. Please be aware that Medicare does not allow us to only charge you the gap. It must be the full amount with a rebate given to you. Click here for more information about Medicare rebates.
The Medicare rebates need to be updated:
- $149.05 for clinical psychologists
- $101.55 for general psychologists
- $89.50 for mental health social workers
Cost per session ranges from $200-$260 before claiming the rebate.
